About Literacy Learning Academy

Literacy Learning Academy, Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded in December 2022 with the mission of supporting students from socioeconomically disadvantaged communities in New York City and helping to change the trajectory of their academic success.

We provide small group reading tutoring tailored to meet students' individual needs, grounded in evidence-based programs to improve their literacy skills.

Coreen Moriah

Founder & President

Coreen is a National Board Certified Teacher in Literacy and a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner with over 15 years of experience. She holds a Master's in Childhood Education from Lehman College and a School District Leadership Certification from Bank Street College.

Her unwavering dedication to education and passion for effective literacy instruction drives her mission to ensure every child has access to high-quality literacy education.

Maureen Pinnock

Treasurer

Maureen is a graduate of Herbert H. Lehman College with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. With over 15 years of experience in accounting and finance, she brings expertise in Accounting, Human Resources, and Financial Management.

Her commitment to supporting children's development and ensuring the organization's financial sustainability makes her an invaluable asset to the Literacy Learning Academy team.

There are several ways you can make a difference in the lives of students.

Fundraising & Events

Organize or participate in charity runs, auctions, or community fairs. Leverage your skills in event planning, marketing, or networking.

In-Kind Donations

Contribute books, stationery, learning software, or other educational materials to directly enhance resources available to students.

Advocacy & Awareness

Help raise awareness through social media, community groups, and personal networks to spread the mission of Literacy Learning Academy.
